This Nike Air Max is Going Solo

Back in the early days of Nike’s Air Max line, the sneakers were marketed as performance running models to high-level athletes. Yes, people actually ran in Air Maxes – crazy, I know. But things have changed since then. With Nike turning to foams like ZoomX and React for its running sneakers, Max Air seemingly isn’t as useful as it once was.

That’s not to say that Air Max died out. On the contrary – it’s only grown in popularity. But why? It’s because the Beaverton-based sportswear brand transitioned Air Max into a lifestyle sneaker line and left performance to the Running division.

Later this month, the brand is set to release a brand-new lifestyle Air Max model called the Nike Air Max Solo. Its design draws from Air Max models past and present, featuring a see-through mesh upper with synthetic suede and leather overlays. The mesh tongues are plush with padding and feature Air Max–branded badges.

Nike Air logos are printed on the heels, which nod to the bulbous Max Air units down below. They sit inside stacked foam midsole units that feature sculpting on the heel and forefoot sections. Rubber outsoles with Nike’s signature waffle tread complete the look.

Want a pair? The new Nike Air Max Solo will be available July 13th on DTLR.com and DTLR stores in men’s sizing. Retail is set at $100.
