Sneaker Heat: The Air Jordan Retro 5 'Fire Red'
Published:April 27, 2020
If you’ve been a Jordan lover over the years then you’ve probably noticed that when it comes to anniversaries, the brand doesn’t hold back. In the last couple of years Jordan Brand has celebrated 30th anniversaries of the Jordan 1 with the ‘Chicago’ Retro 1, the Jordan 2 ‘Alternate 87’ Retro 2, the Jordan 3 with the ‘Black Cement’ Retro 3, and last year the Jordan 4 with the ‘Bred’ 4. Now, JB is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Jordan 5 by bringing back a classic that was originally a player exclusive for his Airness in 1990 and didn’t see a retail release until 2000, the ‘Fire Red’ 5. Not only is it the 30th anniversary of the Jordan 5 debut but it’s also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the day MJ dropped 69 on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
While this release isn’t identical to the pair that MJ wore, it is identical to the pair that released back in 2000. For you Jordan purists, you may remember that the pair MJ wore had 23 stitched on the outside of the heel but that little detail didn’t make it to the retail pair. This pair is done up in a clean White leather upper construction that is complemented by the head-turning 3M Silver tongue that makes the shoe pop. The Black midsole and Fire Red shark teeth bring the shoe together in a true classic make up. The icing on the cake, of course, is the Red ’Nike Air’ branding on the heel and Jumpman logo that is as good as it was back when Jordan laced them up.
