Set To Drop: Air Jordan 9 “Black and Light Gum”

Jordan Brand keeps their ears to the street. Most of their creative titles and memorable themes are inspired by MJ history and what consumers want from the brand. Long as I can remember, the Retro 9 model has always been considered the “boot” version of a Jordan. Its high-top build is bulky with a tall upper. Even the toe box has an infinite amount of sparkles that shine like sandpaper. With shoelaces that are distinctly different from the flat-handed cotton version, the release is visually groundbreaking. Following suit with the 2021 holiday lineup is a winterized iteration of the innovative model for the next generation to enjoy.

As the sneaker resembles a boot, Jordan Brand looked to the NRG division at Nike to give this classic base a miraculous makeover. Fit for colder conditions, the upper is made with a blend of soothing suede along with the durability of leather. With exception to the outer sole, the entire shoe is fully loaded with Black luxury fabrics. Every section is insulated more which gives a larger-than-life appearance. Boot detailing is seen on the metal eyelets. At a glance, I can easily mistake it for a legendary Air Force 1 colorway with the rigid gum rubber outsole. At the bottom is a set of unique graphics and messages telling a global basketball story unlike any other.

The Retro Air Jordan 9 “Black Gum” is out on 11/24/2021 on www.dtlr.com and at local DTLR/VILLA locations.
