Can Vince Shox the World Again?
In the year 2000, Vince Carter wasn’t anything short of breathtaking with his giant leaps and deaf defying dunks! Yes, All-Star weekend put the world on notice that the high flying baller is here to stay. Eventually, able to add to his pro basketball career and join the 2000 Olympic team with sights on the gold medal.
Other than growing a full head of hair, Vince had the ultimate trick under his sleeve. He performed the “Dunk of Death” in the 2000 Summer Olympics. This vary dunk caused the world to stand still while Vince dunked on a man over 7 feet tall! Ironically, this was the official debut of the ‘Nike Shox BB4. A dunk of that magnitude done on a global stage put the world on notice. Not to mention, the memorable moment solidified the Nike Shox BB4 as a fan favorite.
Today, Vince is playing his 21st season in the NBA. With over two decades of hoops, Nike decided to blow the dust off of the vault keypad to bring us a retro of the Nike Shox BB4. I was instantly shocked at Nike deciding not to make any obvious changes to the colorway. The upper is split in half between the smooth leather and the patterned nubuck. Metallic silver accents appear in the support pallets, Nike Swoosh, and other detailed pockets for a futuristic finish.
Does the question remain can Vince shox the world again? I don’t think he is capable of dunking over a 7’2 basketball center. I do think an NBA player hooping in his signature shoe after 20 seasons is shocking in itself.
